In 1887 Adam collaborated with Agnes Ethelwyn Wetherald in

modestly noted) “not only in Montreal, but in London and New York.” (DCB).
John Hunter Duvar was a Scottish-born writer (the son of Agnes
Strickland) who settled in P.E.I. ‘The reputation Hunter Duvar enjoys
as a writer rests primarily on three of his larger works: The enamorado (Summerside, 1879), De Roberval, a drama (Saint John, 1888),
which includes a poem called “The emigration of the fairies,” and
Annals of the court of Oberon (London, [1895].’ (DCB).

‘This story about an English man refusing to learn French while in
France had its beginnings in 1796 as a comic song by Charles Dibdin
(1745-1814). Each time the man discusses anything with a French local
or asks a question, the French-speaking citizens answer "Monsieur, je
ne vous-entends pas" ("Sir, I do not understand you"). John Bull
mistakenly thinks that each person is talking about a "Mounseer
NongTongPaw" which he puts together phonetically due to his
misunderstanding, and gets the idea that this person is so rich that
he owns Versailles, and a beautiful woman. Near the end of the rhyme
John Bull sees a hearse where once again he understands that it is
Mounseer NongTongPaw who is deceased.
For a long time this particular reworked version of Mounseer
NongTongPaw was not attributed to Mary Godwin Shelley, rather to her
father William Godwin. However, in the 1980 copy of Peter and Iona
Opie's Nursery Companion where this work was present, for the first
time Mary was given credit for her work. The evidence comes from a
letter sent by William Godwin to his publisher on January 2, 1808: "…
in small writing is the production of my daughter in her eleventh
year, & is strictly modelled, as far as her infant talents would
allow, on Dibdin's."
It is not hard to imagine that Mary had such abilities at age eleven
considering that only six years later she would write the novel that
sparked an entire new genre, now known as science fiction. Although it
is safe to assume that her father had reworked and edited some of her
work, we have it in his own writing that Mary herself created this
comical rhyme about John Bull's misunderstandings of the French
language.' (https://osborneeighteenthcenturychildrensliterature.wordpress.com/2017/01/14/mounseer-nongtongpaw-by-mary-godwin-shelley/)

of the story as this d/w shows a picture of an indigenous boy with
musket on the front-- it would seem that Winston used the design from
one of the other series written by Ellis, most likely the ‘Deerfoot’

An account of the controversial ‘Selkirk trials' following the
attack on the Red River settlement and massacre at Seven Oaks in 1816,
which led to the deaths of Governor Semple and twenty of his men. As a
result of the attack, Selkirk brought legal proceedings against the
Northwest Company, who used their extensive influence to delay the
trial, secure a favourable venue (York), with each of the accused
being acquitted and released. The cost of the proceedings and the
subsequent indictment brought against Selkirk and his supporters for
‘conspiracy to ruin the trade of the Northwest Company' destroyed
Selkirk's fortune and most likely contributed to his early death.
(DNB) Trials covered include those of John Siveright, Alexander
Mackenzie, Hugh McGillis, John McDonald, John McLaughlin, and Simon
Fraser.
Lt.-Colonel The Hon. Sydney Robert Bellingham (1808-1900) Anglo-Irish
businessman, lawyer, journalist, military and political figure in
Canada East. When his father encountered financial difficulties in
1824, the young Sydney Bellingham (then age 15) set of to find his
fortune in Canada. Bellingham travelled widely throughout Upper Canada
until 1827 when he became involved in a timber business based in
Montreal. In 1831 he married Arabella Holmes, a member of a wealthy
and well-connected family, whose resources allowed Bellingham to enter
Canadian politics. In 1834 he was an unsuccessful candidate for an
Assembly seat in Lower Canada but was named a Justice of the Peace in
1837. During the Lower Canada Rebellion, he served as a captain with
the Royal Montreal Cavalry and was aide-de- camp to Lt.-Col. George
Wetherall. In 1840 he was called to the Bar in Lower Canada.
Concurrently, he served as a editor of the Canada Times, a reform
leaning newspaper which supported Durham's proposed reforms but
opposed the union of Upper and Lower Canada. Bellingham and his wife
settled on Mount Royal and in 1854 he was elected to the Legislative
Assembly for the Province of Canada, despite several by-elections that
resulted from charges of intimidation and bribery against Bellingham. He
continued to serve in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec after
Confederation. ‘Bellingham had collaborated on several newspapers over
the years. In 1871 he became editor of the Daily News (Montreal),
owned by his "devoted friend" and former comrade-in-arms John Lovell. Achintre considered Bellingham one of the best journalists in the
province, asserting that his independence of mind as an editor in the
treatment of political questions was never subordinate to his
partisanship as a Conservative deputy. In 1877 he assumed the
presidency of the Lovell Publishing Company. That year the journalist
Nicholas Flood Davin wrote that "Bellingham was at one time a name of
power in Montreal, and known throughout Canada" and that he had been
one of the best known political writers . . . of Lower Canada."' In
1878 Bellingham resigned his seat and returned permanently to Ireland.
