Birmingham: Phillips & Co., nd (circa 1839). One sheet measuring 18.5 x 12.5cm printed on recto only. Some browning to edges, one corner chipped but o/w a better than very good copy of this unrecorded broadside. OCLC shows a similar broadside (though larger) printed by S.G. Fairbrother, London.
This broadside is an advertisement for the ‘talking canary', to be on exhibit at the East-Street House in Brighton. Admittance 1s., Children Half-Price. There are quotations from ‘Opinions of the Press' relating to the talents of the talking canary; ‘In addition to his gift of song, he has the singular power of uttering a variety of sentences, so completely articulate that the ear at once detects the division of the syllables....' A notice at the bottom states: ‘It may be interesting to state that this extraordinary Bird is a native of Brighton; was hatched four years ago, and taken from the nest at three days old.' $300
