(New York: Crowell-Collier Publishing Company, 1946). Offprint, first separate edition of Urey's piece that was originally published in Collier's Magazine. Sm. 4 to., orig. stapled cream wrappers, 7pp. double columns. Spine splitting at top and bottom, some slight discoloration but still a very nice copy of a scarce item. OCLC notes 3 locs only.
Harold Clayton Urey [1893 – 1981] was an American physical chemist whose pioneering work on isotopes earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1934 for the discovery of deuterium. He played a significant role in the development of the atom bomb, as well as contributing to theories on the development of organic life from non-living matter. In this piece, Urey expresses his fears about the era post-atomic bomb and urges people to heed the concerns and recommendations of the Federation of Atomic Scientists.
