'This informational booklet was issued in conjunction with the Canadian film, ‘The Sins of the Father', The first feature-length sound film dealing with this No. 1 health problem to be written and produced in Canada.' The film was made with the co-operation of the federal Minister of Health, Paul Martin, along with the Health Ministers of the provinces.
Produced by Larry Cromes, directed by Phil Rosen and Richard J. Jarvis, screenplay by Gordon Burwash, the film starred Austin Willis, Joy Lafleur, John Pratt, Phyllis Carter and others. The film's plot shows the effect of syphilis in a small Canadian town. Ben Edwards is a crusading doctor who tries to pass a public health law, against the hypocritical opposition of the leaders of the community who profit from prostitution and slums. Finally the opponents find out that they themselves have syphilis and have transmitted it to their own children.
