FORSYTH, Robert. The Principles and Practice of Agriculture, Systematically Explained, in Two Volumes …
Edinburgh: A. Bell, 1804. In two volumes. First edition. 8vo., orig. full calf, xiv, (ii), 592; (ii), 575pp. With a frontis in each volume, 21 plates (including one folding plate). Vol. I has charring with loss to the upper boards and loss of paper but no loss of text, outer hinge cracked, chipping to head and foot of spine; volume II has charring affecting upper board, but with no loss of text, outer hinge cracked; on the whole this is a sound copy of a comprehensive treatise.
“Agriculture differs from gardening in this respect, that the gardener is chiefly occupied in rearing small quantities of the nicer and more delicate vegetables, which are rather viewed as objects of luxury than as articles of food; whereas the agriculturist labours upon a larger scale, with a view to supply himself and his countrymen with the necessaries of life.”
