(CANADIANA/BOOK CATALOGUE). Some Choice Books 1910.
London: The Mallach Book-Shop, 183 Dundas Street, 1910. This is in fact the Canadian issue of the ‘Some Choice Books 1910' catalogue issued by G.P. Putnam's Sons. 8vo., orig. decorated wrappers, 36pp. Illustrated. Brown mark on the upper wrapper but o/w a near fine copy of a scarce catalogue. Not in Voila.
This issue of the Putnam's catalogue distributed in Canada has a first leaf and its conjugate which is slightly shorter than the other pages and has the imprint/stamp of the Canadian bookseller, Mallach, on the titlepage. The clue that it is Putnam's is the ‘Catalogues Recently Listed' advert by them on the inner rear wrapper. One assumes that the Putnam imprint was removed from some of the sheets, which were replaced by a new leaf with the imprint of a Canadian bookshop, in order to facilitate Canadian orders. We have not seen another example of an American publisher's catalogue from this period with a Canadian bookshop on the titlepage.
