Ethel Le Neve [1883-1967] mistress of Dr. Hawley Crippen, who was hanged for the murder and mutilation of his wife. Le Neve was originally hired by Crippen to be his typist but by 1905 had become his mistress. After he murdered his wife, Crippen and Le Neve fled to Canada where they were arrested and returned to England. Le Neve was found not guilty of complicity in the murder. She changed her name, and after a brief return to Canada, she returned to England where she married, had two children, and died in 1967. Her past association with Crippen was unknown to her husband, and only revealed to her children by historian Jonathan Goodman in 1980 when he was working on a book on the Crippen case. $300
