His first works were rather indecorous novelettes, published under the title "Galeries des Femmes." He then turned to writing "reflections" on various subjects, which first appeared in periodicals and were later collected as "L'Hermite en Chousee d'Antin" (1812-1814) and the above in 1816. These works were very successful and established a reputation for Jouy as a great moral authority.
