Clavigero, a Jesuit, spent thirty years researching the archeology and antiquities of Mexico. This title, which was originally published in Italian in 1780-81, is a veritable mine of important historical documents and includes list of others found in the Vatican, Mendoza, and Boturini collections. According to Hill, all other books on the same subject have magnified the importance of Clavigero's book, rather than superseded it. This edition was "a landmark contribution to eigteenth century knowledge about Mexico." (Hill).
