Raumer travelled extensively; to Venice in 1815, Switzerland and Italy in 1816-17, England in 1835, Italy in 1839 and finally to America in 1843. These visits led to the publication of several works including the above "England in 1835" which is a series of letters/observations about English society in 1835 and includes not only the usual description of scenery but also comments about the contemporary political questions. This edition in an abridgement of Antoine Bruzen de la Martinere's "Geographical Dictionary" translated from the English of Laurence Echard by Vosgien. The three folding maps are of France; Europe and the World; the last presented in two hemispheres and shows Australia.
