Wilkinson divides his work into ten large sections; ther first contains remarks on the early state of Egypt; the second chapter covers the history of Egypt from the accession of the first king Menes to the conquest of Egypt by Alexander; the third chapter is a general discussion of the state of Egypt and the division and subdivision of the four classes; the fourth chapter treats the members of the second class; the fifth contains the houses, gardens, villas, etc; the sixth contains and account of furnishings and activities; the seventh contains information for serving andpreparation of dinner, games, exercises, the eighth contains information on hunting; the ninth treats the arts of the Egyptians; and the final chapter the style of art is covered.

Rev. Williams was the ablest missionary to the Polynesian people, and his book was the most often printed and widely read of all the contemporary accounts. This work covers the period 1816 to 1834, during which time Williams christianized the entire Hervey Islands group. Some of these islandes were discovred by Captain Cook in 1773 and others by Rev. Williams in 1823. The entire group is now called the Cook Islands. While in London to supervise the printing of his Rarotongan New Testament, Rev. Williams raised L4,000 to equip the missionary-ship, on which he sailed to his untimely death. He is frequently referred to as "the Martyr of Erromanga." (Hill).
