SMYTHIES, Bertram E. The Birds of Burma. By....With 31 Colour Plates by Commander A.M. Hughes.
Edinburgh: Oliver & Boyd, (1953). Second edition, revised. Small 4to., original dark green cloth, (xliv), 668pp. With illustrations and a large folding map at rear. Name, some rippling on cloth (binding flaw) but in fact a near fine copy in the dustwrapper which has a pictorial paper panel on the front, and is slightly rubbed but otherwise very nice.
First published in 1940, this work aimed at providing, in non-technical language, a concise and accurate account of the birds of Burma. The book has been re-written on former lines but with view to placing on record all first-hand information of value, whether on a bird's appearance, voice, habitat, behaviour, food, breeding, biology, or status and distribution collected down to 1948.
