At the time of her death in 1951, Dorothy Dix was among the most widely read and highest paid journalists of her era. Her advice columns were syndicated in over 150 newspapers and had a readership of more than 60 million. Mirandy is a novel in dialect in which an African-American matron provides her thoughts on American society—including automobiles, matrimony, money, women, divorce, etc.
