HOLME, Charles (editor). Art of the British Empire Overseas.
London: The Studio, 1917. First edition. 4to. cont. red half leather, cloth, raised bands, T.E.G., viii, 144pp. With 115 plates, 8 of which are in colour. Some wear to corners and spine extremities, a dampstain to the rear board but this is certainly a very good copy.
This work gives a brief history with examples of ‘Landscape Art' in the British colonies of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Canada. The section dealing with Canada (p. 3-34) provides a history of Canadian art written by Eric Brown, and gives examples in 23 plates of the work of several artists, including Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, C.W. Jeffreys, Arthur Lismer, and Tom Thomson.
