Townsend. 8vo., original blue cloth with an elaborate gilt peacock design on upper cover and the spine, binding design by Albert Angus Turbayne with his monogram at the bottom left-hand corner of the upper board, endpapers with the same peacock design as on the cover printed in yellow; all edges gilt, (4), vii-xxiv, 291pp. With 38 plates. A fine copy of this very attractive publisher's binding.
Albert Angus Turbayne (1866-1940) did several similar bindings--curiously, this ‘peacock design' was also used by Macmillan on other titles including Headlong Hall and Nightmare Abbey; Maid Marian and Crotchet Castle; and The Misfortunes of Elphin and Rhododaphne.
