URQUHART, Jane. False Shuffles. Drawings by Tony Urquhart.
Victoria: Press Porcepic, (1982). First edition of Urquhart's second book. With a presentation inscription from the author to fellow Canadian poet and editor, Eli Mandel, and his wife Ann. Also laid in is an ALs from Urquhart to the Mandels written on postcards (14cm x 9cm) depicting ‘The Manorhouse at Sausseau'. Written on the rectos only, while undated this letter was presumably written in 1982 as it refers to the publication of ‘False Shuffles.' Beginning ‘Dear Eli & Ann', Urquhart continues by thanking them for a ‘splendid evening spent with you.' She then writes ‘...Well here is F.S. or Shuffles as we call it in our casual off hand way. With the exception of the typo in the first line on pg 107 I'm quite pleased...' She continues with a description of a couple of readings that she did on the west cost and also references an art show by her husband, Tony. She ends the note ‘As Gene Kelly would say, Gotta dance, gotta dance, gotta dance. love to you ... Jane.' Original wrappers, (115)pp. Some minor rubbing to the spine ends o/w a near fine copy .
