BURTYNSKY, Edward. Before The Flood Photographs by Edward Burtynsky

Printed card affixed to the inside of the clamshell slipcase reads: "One hundred numbered copies have been issued in a handcrafted binding and are accompanied by an archival giclée print signed by the artist. Copies 1-50 include the print Three Gorges Dam Project, Dam #1, Yangtze River, China 2002. Copies 51-100 include the print Three Gorges Dam Project, Feng Jie #5, Yangtze River, China 2002. An edition of 26, lettered A-Z, are retained by the artist.' Oblong 4to. (36 x 28.5cm) bound in rust cloth with title blind-stamped on upper board, 32pp. In a clamshell slipcase (42 x 33.5 cm) as issued, and the slipcase has a map printed on the inside bottom. The print is done on a folding paper folio (image measures 29 x 23cm, on paper measuring 31 - 39cm) which fits on top of the book inside the custom folding slipcase. The clamshell slipcase has the title blind-stamped on the upper board and spine. Fine.
From Burtynsky's website: "Burtynsky's work concerns itself with landscape changed in the pursuit of progress and this has never been more fully rendered than in his most recent work, The Three Gorges Dam Project, Yangtze, China. The Three Gorges dam, when completed in 2009 will be the largest concrete structure in the world, producing some 84.7 billion kilowatt hours per year as well as having displaced over 1.8 million people and submerging over 8000 archaeological sites under water. As with his other series, Burtynsky has produced troubling and strikingly beautiful photographs, both rich in detail and exactingly composed, that chronicle humankind's ever larger impact on the environment."
