Paris: Sur les debris de la Bastille, 1790. First edition. This copy has only three of the four plates called for. As is quite common this copy is LACKING the infamous plate which should face p. 123. Complete copies are quite uncommon. Tall 8vo., rebound in the 19th century red half morocco, marble boards, raised bands, gilt compartments, 191pp. Pages a bit browned o/w a fine copy. An expose of "Le Parc au Cerf" at Versailles, the notorious seraglio of Louis XV, so called, it is said, because the house bought for that purpose stood in a district long since built over, used by Louis XIII as a sort of deer farm." Copies with the plate facing p. 123 are scarce.
