Henry Clifford, an officer in the Rilfe Brigade, sent regularly form the Crimea many letters which were circulated among his numerous relatives. First commissioned to the Rifle Brigade in 1846 he served in South Africa and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his part at the Battle of Inkerman.
