The Rev. Yate spent seven years in New Zealand before returning to NSW and being dismissed from the mission for misconduct. This work provides an account of the geography, flora and fauna, the social structure of the Maoris, and a history of the mission. The appendix contains a letter from Dr. Gray of the British Museum giving an account of Rev. Yate's shell collection.
