"Coxe state that the recent Russian discoveries between Asia and America having for some time been of interest, he, during his stay in St. Petersburg, directed his research to that interesting subject. He endeavored to collect the journals of the several voyages subsequent to the expedition of Bering in 1741, with which Gerhard Muller concluded his account of the first Russian navigations. This work includes the main Russian discoveries and explorations made in northwestern America in their attempts to open communications with Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. Coxe made suggestions which led the Russians to promote expeditions of discovery to the northern parts of Siberia. His list of works on the subject, and his observations on the fur trade between the Russians and the Chinese, are very valuable. (Hill).
