MUIRHEAD, Arnold. Grace Revere Osler: A Brief Memoir.
(Oxford): Printed for Private Circulation at the Oxford University Press, 1931. First edition. One of 500 copies. Tall 8vo., original grey paper boards with cream spine, 56pp. Some light foxing to spine otherwise near fine.
A biography of Lady Grace Revere Osler (1854-1928), wife of Sir William, written by the educator, bibliophile, and bookseller Arnold Meadowcraft Muirhead (1900-1988). Muirhead became close with the Oslers while a student at Oxford, earning the status of “latch-keyer” in the Osler household: one of a small circle of students who had nearly free access to the house and its library. The book offers a highly sympathetic portrait of Lady Grace and her life at Oxford as well as a useful accounting of her role in securing Osler's legacy—and that of his prodigious library—following the physician's death in 1919.
