This collection covers a variety of conditions resulting from the war and includes information relating to hysteria, combat disorders, neurotic disorders etc. In his introductory remarks Osler writes, "The outstanding features of the medicine of the war are the reduction in the ordinary camp diseases and the number and variety of functional disorders of the nervous system. We are face to face with a new neurology of extraordinary complexity, due directly to the exceptional strain of modern warfare. Our hospitals swarm with cases of aphonia, dumbness, deafness, amnesia, anaesthesia, spasms, tremors, and with the subjects of hitherto unknown or rarely seen incoordinations...
