With 28 plates. Outer hinges cracked but held by the cords, 1" piece out of the top of the spine and wear to foot but certainly a very good copy.
Erik Pontoppidan [1698-1764] Danish bishop, historian and antiquary. Early in his theological career, he published devotional works, including an explanation of the Lutheran Catechism. In addition to his theological pursuits, Pontoppidan was also occupied with antiquarian and topographical studies. As his Episcopal duties in Norway required him to travel around the country, he gathered information and produced the above work. The descriptions were based "on his observations and provide information on the Norwegian peasant population, their way of living and thinking, and of the Norwegian flora and fauna, inspired principally by the great Swedish naturalist Carolus Linneaus.
