Philadelphia: Henry C. Lea, 1873. In two volumes. A new edition, enlarged and carefully revised by the author. With the bookplate of "W.A. Burnham, M.D.", who was a medical officer of health in Rockland, Michigan. Tall thick 8vo., orig. publisher's calf, leather spine labels, (xxiv), (17)-781, 32pp. ads; xxiv, (17)-918, 2pp. ads. With illustrations in the text. Bookplate, small rubberstamp on the front free e/papers, binding rubbed with wear to corners but still a very good set. Heirs of Hippocrates 1869 (Philadelphia: 1854).
‘The present work was first published at London in 1853 and was in its tenth edition in 1895. Over 40,000 copies of the book had been sold by that time and it was also translated into Italian, German, and Spanish. It was so popular in the United States that a copy was issued to every medical officer in the Federal army during the Civil War. Unfortunately, this was done without Erichsen's consent and no acknowledgment was made to him or his publishers.' (Heirs).
