Tall 8vo., rebound in modern brown cloth, leather spine label, viii, (1)-446pp. Some foxing throughout, heavier at the beginning of the book o/w a very nice copy. Heirs of Hippocrates 1310 (Phila: 1840); Waller 858; Wellcome, II, p. 136 (the latter two both citing the first English edition, 1838).
‘As Bell approached the later years of his life, he decided to leave London and in 1836 returned to Edinburgh where he assumed the chair of surgery. He also remained active as an author and gave special attention to the preparation of his lectures. This work was first published at Edinburgh in 1838 and consists of many of the lectures he delivered on the principles and practice of surgery'. (Heirs).
