MACAULAY, Lord. The Miscellaneous Writings of Lord Macaulay.
London: Longman, Green, Longman and Roberts, 1860. In two volumes. First edition. Tall 8vo., contemporary half brown morocco, cloth, raised bands, gilt lettering, xvi, (396); (viii), 440pp. Errata in volume one. With a frontispiece in volume one. Name on the verso of the frontispiece, light rubbing, some marks on the cloth but this is still a very nice copy.
These two volumes collect a diverse selection of writings by the polymath British historian, literary critic, and Whig politician. In addition to several entries composed by Macaulay for the Encyclopedia Britannica, including those for Samuel Johnson and William Pitt, the miscellany features essays on subjects such as the Italian literary tradition, the life of Dryden, and Utilitarian philosophy.
