First Canadian edition (which Green & Gibson calls ‘First American edition--Canadian issue). 8vo., original green with with a pictorial decoration on the top third of the upper board, (viii), (381)pp. With the ownership signature of Canadian theatre theoretician, Roy Mitchell, on the front free endpaper and verso of the frontispiece, some wear to the corners and a touch to the foot of the spine, spine rubbed but overall a just about very good copy of this scarce Canadian issue. Green & Gibson A29d--noting it was done in an edition of just over 2,000 copies, with 1217 bound in cloth.
Roy Mitchell (1884-1944) Canadian journalist, technician, theatre theoretician, and the first artistic director of Hart House Theatre, and founder of the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto. His ideas heavily influenced the Little Theatre movement as well as the construction of Hart House Theatre.
