The second and definitive edition of all three of Jenner's treatises on vaccination published between 1798 and 1800. In the first work, Jenner ‘established the fact that a "vaccination" or inoculation with vaccinia (cowpox) lymph matter protects against smallpox. He performed his first vaccination on May 14, 1796. This work describes 23 successful vaccinations, announced to the world as one of the greatest triumphs in the history of medicine.' (G & M). In the second and third works (part II & III here) Jenner provides further evidence on the efficacy of vaccinations, new facts and addresses the concerns of some of his critics.
