GRAY, T. (Thomas). Designs by Mr. R. Bentley for Six Poems by...
London: Printed for R. Dodsley, in Pall-mall, 1753. First edition, first issue (with 'Drawings' on the half title). Folio, recently rebound with a dark brown calf spine, gray paper boards, raised bands, leather label, (after the period) (4), (36), (4)pp. With 6 full page engravings, head and tailpieces designed by Bentley and engraved by Muller. The 4 page "Explanation of the Prints" at the end is by Horace Walpole. Some light foxing to the title and half title, marginal foxing to two of the plates but o/w a near fine copy with lovely engravings. Hazen 42 states that this production is "regarded as a landmark in the history of English book illustration."
