London: Printed by George Larking..., 1681. First edition. 12mo., full contemporary calf, (12), 478pp. With 13 pages of plates including the frontispiece. Pages closely trimmed without loss, bookplate, some wear to extremities but o/w very good.
Thomas Delaune [1635-1685] born in Cork. Delaune became a school master before emigrating to England where he married a Baptist preacher's daughter and became a Dissenter. In 1683 he publihed "Compulsion of Conscience Condemened" and in 1684 "A Plea for the Non-Conformist." Dealune was committed to Newgate prison for writing "seditious adn dangers matters against the government." After being found guilty, his books were ordered burned and as he was unable to pay the fine, he and his family remianed in Newgate where they all died within a year.
