POWYS, John Cowper. The Meaning of Culture.
New York: W.W. Norton & Company, n.d. (but close to the 1929 copyright.) "Eleventh Large Printing" and "Autographed by..." on the d/w. Signed by Powys on the e/paper. Fine in a near fine d/w. Thomas notes that "there were impressions bound in pink cloth with pink endpapers" but makes no mention of the signature nor the dustwrapper with the printed notice (see scan).

Note: While checking this entry in Thomas I noted with some nostalgia Thomas' next entry in the bibliography, "The Owl, the Duck and Miss Rowe" , which Thomas stole from me many years ago. Thomas ordered it from a catalogue of mine some 30 years ago and never paid me the $35.00 price in spite of several letters. Another Canadian dealer told me that Thomas did the same to him as well, obviously counting on the international border to disuade Canadian dealers from taking action. My colleague, smarter than me, was eventually paid by writing directly to the President of Thomas' University with his complaints. I have had to be content with telling the story for the last 30 years. Prof. Thomas is one of only two collectors who have cheated me in 40 some odd years using the trust system booksellers take such pride in extending worldwide. Since a fine copy in a fine dustwrapper might bring $500 now, if Prof. Thomas is still alive I figure that's what he now owes me.

$200.00
