Arabella Buckley was the first writer to translate Darwinian evolution into popular terms that children could understand. Buckley had worked as Charles Lyell's secretary for many years, and had followed the Darwinian debates. Despite their rather disconcerting titles, her books are "scientifically accurate and extremely lucid."
