London: John Murray, 1843. Second edition (so stated). 8vo., orig. light green cloth with a pictorial decoration in gilt on the upper cover, xx, 426, (2)pp.ads. With a folding map. Spine slightly faded o/w a fine copy.
Eyre joined the East India Company in 1828 and was with the force that invaded Afghanistan in 1840. After the siege of Cabul, Eyre and his family were taken hostage and not rescued until 1843. He later commanded the artillery at Gwalior, and during the Mutiny distinguished himself at Arrah and Jagdespur. He retired as a Major-General in 1863.
