David Mason Books was founded in 1967. After a period working in new book stores David Mason began a cataloging business dealing in Modern Literature. At the same time he apprenticed with Joseph Patrick books then the largest and best dealer in Canadiana and Canadian Literature in Canada. While serving his apprenticeship Joseph Patrick generously allowed David Mason to display his stock in Patrick's premises since his stock did not conflict with his employer's specialities. In 1969 Joseph Patrick was forced from his premises and David Mason became completely independent taking offices over the Village Book Store on Toronto's Gerrard Street. A year after that Mason opened a street front bookstore, also on Gerrard Street which allowed him to diversify from Modern First Editions into any area that took his interest, a move he never regretted. Further moves in 1972 to Church Street and to Queen Street West in 1984 and finally (we hope) to our present location at 366 Adelaide Street West, Suites LL04 and LL05, M5V 1R9 in 2005-6. |
